A Russian woman was attacked and severely wounded by a wild bear which then covered her in earth and leaves, possibly planning to come back and eat her later.

Rescuers found 55-year-old Natalya Pasternak buried up to her arms and were forced to shoot the bear as it tried to guard the area.

Graphic video shows the half-buried Pasternak waving weakly for help. The Siberian Times reported that Pasternak was in a "severe" condition.

She had been walking with a friend near Tynda in the Amur region of Russia when the animal struck on May 11.

Her friend managed to escape with just claw marks down her back and raised the alarm.
