But where was that mask, man? A Lone Ranger suit, guns, holster, boots and hat worn by actor Clayton Moore sold at auction Saturday in Waco, Texas, for $195,000. Moore donned the outfit for public appearances after he retired, not on the TV show he starred in in the 1950s.
The set sold for $45,000 above its pre-sale estimate. The buyer was not identified, but a spokeswoman for A&S Auction said the items would be “staying in Texas.” It had been owned by a collector of Old West memorabilia who bought it after Moore’s death in 1999, Reuters reported. The outfit consisted of light blue shirt and pants, red kerchief, Stetson hat, cowboy boots and a belt holster with two custom Colt pistols. The auction house threw in the mannequin it was displayed on, too. But sorry, no mask.
