American high schools are, on the surface, doing better than ever at educating young people but beneath this picture lies more sobering statistics: 25% of high-school seniors are able to do grade-level math and 37% score proficient in reading. Educators and workforce experts are increasingly worried that the preparation students are receiving in high school is out of sync with the emerging demands of the labor market.
