Despite soaking rains and area storm activity, enthusiastic fans turned out for the first Fiesta de la Flor music festival held over the weekend in Corpus Christi in honor of Selena, the Grammy-winning superstar of Tejano music, KRIS' Priscilla Torres reported.

The first staging of the event had hotels in Selena's hometown of Corpus Christi booked for weeks before the show that stretched over Friday and Saturday. Events honoring Selena were held last month, marking the 20th anniversary of her shooting death by her former fan club president. But the Festival de la Flor fell in the same week of what would have been her 44th birthday, which falls on April 16.

Festival organizers are calling the event a success. And Selena's brother, who has has his own musical success, tweeted about the crowd that showed.

There will be more tributes: Jennifer Lopez has announced that she'll pay homage to Selena at the Billboard Latin Music Awards that air on Telemundo on April 30. Lopez got her break role playing Selena in the 1997 movie.

Also her family announced it is working with Acrovirt, LLC to create a hologram of Selena. The family is calling the digital creation "Selena The One," which will be a "walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment of iconic singer, Selena."
