Debbie Sterling is the founder and CEO of GoldieBlox, a toy company she founded to get little girls to love engineering just as much as she does. The Stanford graduate (she has a degree in mechanical engineering and product design) is on a mission to help narrow the gender gap in science, technology, engineering and math.
GoldieBlox is a story book and a construction kit combined, starring Goldie, the girl inventor, who, in collaboration with her animal friends, tackles engineering challenges. It’s the toy Sterling wishes she had when she was growing up, and she says the enthusiastic response from fans worldwide has been the most rewarding part of launching the company.
“There's nothing better than hearing from girls across the globe who tell me how much they love building along with Goldie and how they are inspired to build even more,” says Sterling who has received an outpouring of letters, photos and videos from fans.
