Two New Jersey airports will share $635,000 in Federal Aviation Administration grants.
The bulk of the federal funds — $580,000 — will go to Central Jersey Regional Airport in Manville to continue its expansion. Woodbine Municipal Airport will get the remaining $55,000 for safety enhancements.
"These federal grants are vital aid for the Central Jersey Regional airport, which will improve its infrastructure as it continues to move forward with plans to develop and expand the airport," Sen. Robert Menendez said.
He and Sen. Frank Lautenberg announced the grants Tuesday.
Central Jersey Regional, a one-runway airport, will use most of the grant money to begin building taxi lanes. It also will install an automated weather observing system, allowing for minute-by-minute tracking of approaching weather systems.
At Woodbine, the grant will be used to remove obstructions around the airport in accordance with FAA safety regulations.
