Sun Capital Partners Inc. has completed its $540 million buyout of Kellwood Co., the investment firm said Wednesday.

After launching a tender offer, Sun Capital Partners bought enough shares to take control of Kellwood, a St. Louis-based clothing marketer.

Sun Capital Partners manages more than 180 companies worth $35 billion, including Friendly Ice Cream Corp., Jevic Transportation Inc., Marsh Supermarkets and Boston Market Corp.

Now in the hands of a private investor, Kellwood's stock will no longer trade on a public exchange.
