ATLANTA, Aug. 30, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LIGATT Security International (Pink Sheets:LGTT), a cyber security company, today announced that the company has signed an agreement with Barnes & Noble College Booksellers. LIGATT's first shipment of 300 copies came from Georgia Techs' bookstore, owned and operated by Barnes and Noble, Inc.
"We are very excited about this signing and look forward to proving that LocatePC will help reduce and recover the number of laptops that are stolen on college campuses," says Richard Barry, Director of Business Development of LIGATT Security. "This is a very important relationship for us. This is the first of many locations with Barnes & Noble College Booksellers where we anticipate product promotions, demonstrations and other customer activities. Barnes & Noble College Booksellers is another entrée into the retail distribution space for LIGATT Security and LocatePC."
Acquired by Barnes and Noble, Inc. in 2009, Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, Inc. operates bookstores at more than 600 U.S. colleges and universities. It was formerly a separate company, and Barnes & Noble chairman Leonard S. Riggio owned a controlling interest in the company and is its chairman.
The company also operates the self-proclaimed "world's largest bookstore," located on Fifth Avenue and 18th Street in New York City. This flagship store carries a large variety of textbooks, medical books, and medical supplies in addition to the various trade titles carried at Barnes & Noble's main stores.
Barnes & Noble College Booksellers outreach is to over 4 million students and approximately 250,000 faculty members. This deal gives LIGATT Security International a great opportunity to place the company's signature product, LocatePC, into a highly visible marketplace. LocatePC will allow students, faculty, and alumni to track a stolen computer. Additionally, LocatePC enables the computer owner to retrieve, delete and protect sensitive data, shut down a computer, turn on a key logger to record the thief's activities, and send a message to the computer screen that cannot be closed. LIGATT Security is finding that it may be more important to an individual to actually physically be able to retrieve and protect sensitive data than to actually retrieve the personal computer itself.
