Video-sharing app Viddy this week released a slick new version of its social video iPhone app — the Twitter of its genre that limits each video clip to a mere 15 seconds. A handful of new features makes it easier to create a mini-masterpiece, and for the time being, extra filters and soundtracks are free.   Viddy presents your editing options in three steps — choose cover art, filters and soundtracks — and each can now be rendered twice as fast as the  previous version  allowed. Change your mind? No problem. Each time you tap the Play arrow, the video is re-rendered with your changes.   The ability to choose cover art is new. Instead of making do with the opening frame of your video, you select the still image that acts as a preview to catch the attention of viewers. You can choose a frame from your video or a photo from your iPhone's camera roll — a neat feature if you're "branding" yourself. This also allows you to create a title by adding text to an image in a separate photo app like  Instagram,  a feature that's not built into Viddy's app.    Viddy editors can now choose their filters and soundtracks separately, bundled versions have been eliminated.   Viddy also announced new "viddyographer" packs that let you use more than one filter in a single video, but they are not included with the new version. The in-app store that featured downloadable additions starting at $1 has also disappeared. A Viddy spokesperson told TechNewsDaily that "It just depends on what’s in development," so for now, extra filters and music are free.   While Viddy is an iPhone-only mobile app, the company has updated its website, so others can participate in the Viddy community. Viewers can watch, like and comment on all posted videos. Your activities on Viddy will automatically post to your  Facebook Timeline  unless you turn broadcasting off.   Viddy is available for free in the App Store.
