President Obama and Mitt Romney met for a private lunch today at the White House where they dined on white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

After six years of campaigning, Mitt Romney finally achieved his dream–sort of. He got to sit down to lunch in the private White House dining room. Unfortunately for him, he was there in the role of guest–or, in other words, loser. President Obama was host; he’ll be lunching there for the next four years. This lunch was the first time the two men met face to face since the final presidential debate in October.

The president extended this lunch invite in his election night victory speech when he said he looked forward to sitting down with Romney to talk about how they can work together to move the country forward.

While Toure had his own idea of what was on the lunch menu today:

The White House chefs cooked up white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

Even though the lunch was closed to press the White House released a statement.  In it, the formal rivals pledged to stay in touch particularly if opportunities arise to work together on shared interests.
