Nahal left work at his father's retail store at 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, according to KCRA. At 10:41 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to reports of a shooting, finding Nahal unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains active, Sacramento PD public information officer Traci Trapani told NBC News, with no updates since Nov. 9. The killing is currently not being investigated as a hate crime, she said.

"I saw him laying out on the ground and blood was on his side," Nahal's uncle, Tejiderjit Singh, told KCRA.

Nahal's family believes that he may have been followed home from work after collecting money from the family business, though no money was taken, according to KCRA.
