Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez paid tribute to her late abuela in an emotional episode of "Dancing With the Stars," which aired Monday night.

As she was standing onstage just before her performance, Hernandez watched a video showing her hugging her grandmother Brunilda Hernandez, who died just a few days ago.

Hernandez, a New Jersey native of Puerto Rican heritage, said she could not have gotten to the Rio Olympics without her family's help.

Hernandez, 16, and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy danced a foxtrot to Tori Kelly's "Hollow" and earned high praise for their performance.

Hernandez met her musical idol Tori Kelly shortly after her multi-medal wins in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
