The Washington state man charged with strangling his girlfriend and posting photos of her body online wrote a note saying he did it for "no reason other than I was drunk and she pissed me off," according to court documents released Friday.
Kalac is accused of strangling Amber Coplin, 30, sometime late Monday or Tuesday in the Port Orchard apartment both shared, then posting graphic photos of her body to the online forum 4chan, the same website where hundreds of illegally-obtained nude photos of celebrities were distributed in August. He then fled to Oregon and on Wednesday night surrendered to Wilsonville police, authorities said.
In court documents released Friday, investigators said Kalac apparently scrawled a note before he turned himself in that read: “I killed Amber Coplin. I strangled her with my hands then a shoelace I had no reason other than I was drunk and she pissed me off.” The note was signed with the initials “DK.” The note also read, “running from the cops was so much fun.”
Authorities Friday upgraded the charge against Kalac to first-degree murder. Kalac showed no emotion as he was led in handcuffs before a judge in a Kitsap County courtroom full of the friends and family of the victim. He replied “yes” when asked whether he understood the charge carries a potential sentence of life in prison. He is being held on $2 million bail.
