At first, the figure hanging from a chain-link fence outside a Ohio construction site looked like a Halloween prop.

"She was with one arm up like this, about four feet off the ground and hanging from the fence," neighbor Tammy Dixon told NBC affiliate WCMH, lifting her left arm above her head to simulate what she saw.

But when workers showed up at the site in the city of Chillicothe on Tuesday morning, they realized it was a woman's beaten body.

That discovery triggered panic in Chillicothe, home of an unsettling murder mystery involving the disappearances of six women since 2014, four of whom have been found dead.

By Tuesday night, however, police had found the alleged killer — an acquaintance of the woman. They say there was no connection to the other deaths.

The victim, longtime resident Rebecca Cade, 31, was running from her attacker when she attempted to climb over the fence, the Chillicothe Gazette reported. She likely died on the fence of blunt force trauma to her head and neck. She also had defensive wounds on her arms, police said.

Donnie Cochenour Jr., 27, was arrested Tuesday night for Cade's killing. He remains behind bars.
