House Republicans on Tuesday continued their efforts to dismantle President Barack Obama’s signature health care law, voting to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act for the first time since the new Congress took office last month.
The partisan bill passed 239 to 186. Republican Reps. Robert Dold of Illinois, John Katko of New York and Bruce Poliquin of Maine voted against the legislation.
It marked the 67th time Republicans have attempted to undo at least part of Obamacare and the fourth time the House has passed a full repeal of the bill, according to GOP aides.
The Senate is expected to vote on a repeal bill as well, though the timing has not yet been determined.
Obama has pledged to veto any attempt to roll back his signature legislative achievement.
“I've asked this question before: Why is it that this would be at the top of their agenda, making sure that folks who don't have health care aren't able to get it?” the president said ahead of the vote.
