Kevin M. Brown, the Internal Revenue Service’s acting commissioner since May, will leave that post in September to become chief operating officer of the American Red Cross, the IRS said Thursday.
At the Red Cross, he will join his former boss, former IRS Commissioner Mark Everson. The charity selected Everson as its president in April.
Brown previously served as commissioner of the IRS small business-self employed division and served as chief of staff under Everson.
The IRS had no information on when the next commissioner would be named.
