The wild winter weather belting the South caused a chaotic, complete traffic standstill in North Carolina.

Snow and ice halted drivers on the John Belk Freeway, Interstate 77, I-74 and Independence Boulevard in Charlotte, NBC affiliate WCNC reported.

Local plow companies were aware of the issue on the primary and secondary roads, but there has not been enough snowfall to get all the plows on the road, according to WCNC.

Authorities across the South have been warning motorists to stay off the roads.
