A man was detained Tuesday night after the area near the Boston Marathon finish line was evacuated due to unattended backpacks.

A police officer told NECN's Kathryn Sotnik that there are a couple of backpacks left unattended by the finish line.

NECN also witnessed a man being put in the back of a police cruiser; it is unknown if he was under arrest or being questioned.

Eyewitnesses say he was in all black with a veil covering his face.
