Insurgents attacked a NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, sparking a gunbattle that killed 15 suspected militants dead and wounded two NATO troops, the alliance said Sunday.

The clash occurred in Daychopan district of Zabul province on Saturday, NATO said. Militants ambushed a NATO convoy with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades.

Two NATO vehicles were also damaged, NATO said. The alliance did not disclose the nationalities of the wounded soldiers.

The death toll could not be independently verified.
