An American man has been handed a $12,000 fine or three months in jail for an incident of air rage on a transatlantic flight.

A Continental Airlines jet made an unscheduled landing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Monday night after a passenger became irate.

The flight was operating between Norway and New Jersey.
