A roadside bomb hit a civilian truck in eastern Sri Lanka killing three people on Sunday, the military said.

The explosion occurred in Thirukkovil village in eastern Ampara district, military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe said.

Samarasinghe blamed the blast on separatist Tamil Tiger rebels who have often exploded bombs targeting military vehicles.

There was no immediate comment from the rebels.
