Prescott Mayor Marlin Kuykendall has undergone a successful quintuple bypass surgery, one day after he complained of chest pains.

City spokesman Kim Kapin says Kuykendall's family announced that he is resting comfortably following the 3½-hour surgery Friday.

Kapin says the 76-year-old Kuykendall suffered an apparent heart attack Thursday morning and was transported to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

Prescott city Councilman Jim Lamerson is filling in for Kuykendall, who was elected mayor last year.
