DALLAS, Dec. 14, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dickey's Barbecue Pit will serve James B. Bonham Elementary School's staff a holiday meal Wednesday, congratulating them on a "job well done."

Earlier this year, the school was given the Blue Ribbon Award by the U.S. Department of Education.

Bonham is one of only 25 schools state-wide to hold this honor.

"I graduated from Bonham in 1948. The school is very important to me and important to this community," T.D. Dickey, Jr. said. "This meal is a 'thank you' to those teachers who work so hard and make our community stronger through education. I want them to know they are appreciated."

Dickey's offers a series of holiday items for customers around this time of year, including Cajun fried turkey, spiral cut ham, dressing and other home-style sides, so putting together a festive event was a breeze, Dickey said.

"We already have all the pieces and do this regularly for other companies and organizations. I want the staff to sit back and enjoy someone else doing the work for a little bit," Dickey said, smiling. "It will be an honor to serve them."

The meal with be served at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15.

'GOOD STEWARDS'

Dickey's Barbecue asks all Dickey's Owner/ operators to become good stewards in the communities in which we do business.

By taking part in the Bonham Elementary School event, Dickey is proving that he doesn't just talk the talk.

"We ask all our Owner/operators to take the value of community stewardship along with the barbecue to their neighbors and friends. We want to help support causes that are important to the communities we are in," he said.

The first Dickey's Barbecue opened in 1941, just a few blocks from Bonham Elementary.

The original location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.

Dickey's only began franchising in 1994, now there are over 134 locations in 33 states.

Even today, Dickey's still slow smokes all of their signature meats overnight in every restaurant.
