New social-media company chosen as one of six innovators to participate in inaugural event on February 3
The Next Big Thing will bring entrepreneurs together with a select group of established industry leaders and investors
NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Broadcastr today announced that it has been selected to participate in The Paley Center for Media's inaugural Next Big Thing event, which will be held in New York City on February 3.
Broadcastr is a new social-media platform that lets people create and share audio recordings on an interactive map. Co-founders Scott Lindenbaum and Andy Hunter will demonstrate the platform and pitch their business strategy to a select group of industry leaders and investors at The Paley Center.

A free application for the Web, iPhone and Android, Broadcastr creates a digital layer of audio in the real world. Each story on Broadcastr – including citizen journalism, restaurant reviews, stand-up comedy, oral histories, and personal messages – is tagged to a GPS location. Anyone can listen to the audio through the map on the Web site. Using the Geoplay feature of the mobile app, users can take a walk through the world and hear stories pinned to their physical location streaming automatically into their headphones.
Designed to bring rising innovators and entrepreneurs together with the pioneers and pillars of the media industry, The Next Big Thing is a new series of quarterly events held at The Paley Center. Five to six companies chosen for each session have the opportunity to pitch their business plans and demonstrate their products to attendees. The pitches will be followed by an open discussion and debate.
While this is the first official "Next Big Thing" event, The Paley Center has previously hosted startups at the organization's International Council summits. Alumni include Boxee, Tapulous, and Hot Potato (which was acquired by Facebook in 2010).
