Get Ready to Waste All Your Time with GIFS on Twitter

Forget writing 140 words or less. Twitter now lets users express themselves with GIFs.

Twitter now officially supports GIFs … kind of. It lets people upload GIFs and then it converts them into video files called MP4s to save space. The result: the equivalent of GIFs will appear in Twitter feeds with a “Play” button. Press it, and watch pictures move, as if by magic! GIFs will automatically start playing if a tweet is opened on its own. For Twitter users who felt like there was a dearth of flailing, adorable cats on the Internet, this is truly a great announcement.
