Dubai's Emirates suspended flights to Guinea on Saturday because of the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the airline said. Emirates usually flies to Conakry, Guinea four times a week but those flights would be cancelled until further notice, the airline said in a statement. "The safety of our passengers and crew is of the highest priority and will not be compromised," the statement said.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday issued level 3 warnings against nonessential travel to Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone as a result of the "unprecedented" amount of Ebola cases that erupted in Liberia and Guinea in March and Sierra Leone in May. Ebola has infected more than 1,300 people and killed 728 of them in the three countries, according to the CDC. Emirates doesn't fly to Sierra Leone and Liberia, but said they would continue flights to Dakar and Sengal until advised otherwise. On Friday, The Director-General of the World Health Organization and presidents of the west African nations impacted by Ebola met Friday to launch a $100 million response plan in an effort to control the disease's spread, according to WHO.
