Staff at Baltimore’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center are on the front lines of America’s gun violence epidemic. The hardest part of their job, they tell NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez, is having to tell a mother that their son didn’t make it. “It doesn’t get easier,” Dr. Tom Scalea says. “It gets worse.” Scalea says he’s had to have that conversation more times than he wants to remember. “It makes me sad that in the United States of America, this is the best we think we can do,” he says.July 23, 2022
